10k Win Moves Student to the Head of the Class

Dover, Del. – A 21-year-old student at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore recently won a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The Wilmington resident claimed his prize Feb. 13.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was born in Texas but raised in Delaware.  The stars were certainly aligned for the Lone Star/First State product, as this was the first time he’d ever played the Delaware Lottery.  “This was my first time ever playing anything.  My dad actually gave me the ticket,” according to the winner.

Now the winner says he “absolutely” plans to keep playing.  “I’m sticking with POWERBALL for now, but we’ll see.”

The undergrad discovered he’d won when he scanned the ticket in a retail store.  “I was a little bit surprised,” he remembers.  The first person he told about the win was his dad – and so far that’s the only person he plans to share the news with.

“For now I’m just going to use this money to pay some bills.  I don’t think it will change my life, but it won’t hurt.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Concord News located in Wilmington on Concord Pike.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $2.95 billion to the state’s General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. Final $25,000 Raffle Winner Comes Forward

Dover, Del. – A 52-year-old New Castle resident has claimed the last $25,000 prize in the Delaware Lottery’s DELAWARE RAFFLE.  The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she did not realize she was a winner in the New Year’s Eve drawing until more than a month after the game’s conclusion.

The lucky winner is a registered nurse and considers herself a regular Delaware Lottery player.  The game she plays most often is Powerball®, which piqued her interest after she saw a large jackpot advertised on a highway billboard.

The anonymous winner had claimed prizes of up to $100 in the past, but this was her first major pay day.  And it only took her one RAFFLE ticket to land the big $25,000 prize.

She discovered the good news while checking several tickets at a gas station.  “I could not believe it at first,” recalls the winner.  “I scanned the ticket three times.”  The first person she told was her significant other.

She plans to pay off her car with the winnings, but says the win is unlikely to change her life.  One thing is for sure, she plans to continue playing the Delaware Lottery.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Appleby Shell located in New Castle at 299 Christiana Rd.

Heavy Equipment Operator Hauls In Major Cash

Dover, Del. – The scenario is becoming all too familiar: A 47-year-old New Castle man was in danger of losing his house due to foreclosure.  Fortunately, this story is likely to have a happy ending thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  That’s because this Delaware native recently landed a $54,020 prize by playing MULTI-WIN LOTTO.

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, stepped forward on Feb. 2 to claim the prize.  He works as a heavy equipment operator and says he’s been a regular lottery player for years.  POWERBALL® is his other favorite game.

The big prize was nothing new to this player.  “I also won about $108,000 in 2002,” he said.  This time around the anonymous winner used his own set of lucky numbers.  “I use birthdays.”

He found out about the win by checking his ticket in the store he frequents every other day.  “I got a great big smile on my face right away when I found out I’d won,” he remembered.  The winner is hoping not too many other people saw that grin because he’s trying to keep the news under wraps.

“This win has definitely changed my life.  I was in foreclosure and I’m hopeful this money will be enough to get me out of that.  I’m using the money to save my home,” the winner said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Garfield Liquors located in New Castle at 3003 New Castle Ave.

POWERBALL® Lights Up For Odessa Player

Dover, Del. – A 39-year-old Odessa resident came forward to claim a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize on Jan. 27 thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The player, who struck it rich in a Jan. 17 drawing, works as an electrician and wishes to remain anonymous.

The winner moved from New York to Delaware and now plays the Lottery with a regular pattern.  “I started playing Mega Millions in the 90s trying to win that easy money.  Now I play both weekly POWERBALL® drawings and I buy three tickets per draw,” he said.  “I also like playing scratch offs.”

The $10,000 prize was the first major payout for the anonymous player, who used the Quick Pick option.  “I couldn’t believe it,” he said.  “My mother was the first person I told and she reminded me that there were a few things she needed for her house that I can now go out and get her.”

“I wasn’t waiting on purpose to claim the prize, I didn’t even realize I had a winning ticket,” said the player.  “When I checked it at the Super G in Middletown the clerk told me I’d won, but I didn’t really react right away.  He said ‘You don’t look very happy,’ and I told him I’d be a lot happier once I got that cash.”

For now the winner plans to treat himself to a delicious dinner out, but he’s undecided about what he’ll do with the rest of the prize money.  “It’s going to help out with some bills that are overdue.  I know that.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shore Stop Food Stores located in Middletown at 38 East Main St.

Multi-Win Lotto Delivers Status Package

Dover, Del. – As Capitol Hill politicians squabble over the details of a national stimulus package, the Delaware Lottery is handing out its own relief to a Newark resident who previously worked for General Motors.  The lucky 58-year-old recently claimed $70,100 thanks to a Jan. 26 MULTI-WIN LOTTO drawing.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, has played the Lottery for quite a few years, spending $30-$40 on tickets in most weeks.  Besides MULTI-WIN LOTTO, he also enjoys playing POWERBALL®.  “I’ve been praying to God that we could hit it big and help our children and grandchildren and others that need it,” he said.

It as actually the player’s wife who discovered the good news.  “I didn’t have my glasses with me when I brought the ticket to the store to get it checked, so I had to ask for some help and hold it real close to the scanner,” she remembered.  “I heard the music start playing, but I didn’t know what the prize was.  I have some friends at the store though, so when they told me how much it was we started celebrating.  I called my husband immediately.”

The couple now plans to give some of the winnings to their children and “hide the rest.”  “Every penny helps and this will change our lives a bit,” said the winner.  “We’re thankful to God for what we got.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Glasgow Citgo located in Newark at 2694 Pulaski Hwy.

$15,000 Instant Payout Worth The Wait For PA Couple

Dover, Del. – A Chadds Ford, Pa., couple claimed a top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s INSTANT PAYOUT instant game on Feb 2.  The lucky pair wishes to remain anonymous, but there’s no hiding their happiness over the big win.

Despite living across the state line, they make a point to pick up tickets for PLAY 3, PLAY 4, or scratch off games whenever passing through Claymont and other areas where Delaware Lottery tickets are sold.

The lucky retirees recounted how they discovered the good news:  “I bought two tickets and scratched them off, but I didn’t have my glasses in my pocket.  I had the clerk check them for me because I couldn’t tell whether I’d won anything.  He put it in the machine and told me right away I was a winner.  I assumed it was just $20 or $30 winner.  I knew that my husband was sitting in the car probably getting mad at me for taking so long, but he wasn’t mad anymore after I had him look at the ticket and he saw it was a $15,000 winner!”

The winners have already shared the good news with their kids and other family members.  They also expected to pay some bills with the cash.  “It’s going to be a big help.  We’re going to keep buying tickets when we’re in town.”

Newark Winners Rolling In The Money

Dover, Del. – A Newark couple has won a stack of cash from the Delaware Lottery that should help ease them through their retirement years.  Robert Wesselman and Judith Moyer claimed a $100,000 top prize on Jan. 28 after playing IN THE MONEY, a $20 Instant Game.  Wesselman, 71, and Moyer, 69, have decided to share the prize.

The lucky players say they spend about $25 a week on scratch-off tickets and also enjoy POWERBALL® and HOT LOTTO®.  And they are no strangers to winning, having cashed in on hundreds of dollars over the years.  “We’ve always played to make a few bucks,” said Wesselman.  “We put all of our winnings over the years in an envelope that we call the Florida Fund,” Moyer added.

The pair was unaware of their good luck for nearly a week.  “I carried that ticket around in my pocket for four days before she scratched it off while we were driving together in the car one day,” Wesselman remembered.  “First she says, ‘We won $100!’  Then she thought I gave her a phony ticket as a trick and made me pull over to look at it.”  After that, the couple went straight to a store where Delaware Lottery tickets are sold to get it checked. “I thought it was going to put her in the hospital when we found out what it was really worth.”

Luckily the prize turned out to be even bigger than they originally thought.  “We’re probably going to go to Florida a little earlier now and put the rest in the bank,” they agreed.  They also plan to continue playing the Delaware Lottery in search of The Big One.  “He’s going to keep buying and I’m going to keep scratching,” said Moyer.

The winning ticket was purchased at Samson’s Country Maid located in Newark at 14 Polly Drummond Shopping Center.

Dover, Del. – A 69-year-old Townsend resident has claimed a $50,000 top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s DOLLAR $IGN$ instant game.  The player, originally from Centreville, came forward on Dec. 17 after realizing he’d scored one of the grand prizes in the $20 game.

The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been a regular player since the Delaware Lottery started operating in the state.  “I’ve been chasing the easy money for years,” the winner said.  “That’s why I started playing in the first place.”  He’s won several prizes over the years, including $5,000 in cash last November.

The winner said he could tell right away that he’d won a major prize.  “I wanted to know right away when the Dover (Lottery) office opened so I could get it confirmed,” he said.  “The first person I told was the clerk in the store where I checked my ticket.  He jumped up and down and hugged me.  He was just an unbelievably nice person.”

His wife thought it was a joke at first, but was then also thrilled by the good news.  For now the couple plans to pay some bills with the newfound cash.

POWERBALL® Numbers Compute For Accountant

The accountant said he is not a regular player, but he typically buys $10 worth of tickets at a time.  That turned out to be a winning formula.

He remembered being shocked after checking his ticket in the store.  “The first person I told was the man next to me at the store.”

The winner did not have any immediate plans for the winnings, but said he would likely put it into savings for now.

He said he plans to continue playing Delaware Lottery games and named Powerball as his favorite game.  The recent win is only likely to reinforce those thoughts sentiments.

Police Officer Nabs $10,000 Prize

Dover, Del. – Foul play is not suspected in the case of a recent $10,000 POWERBALL® winner.  The prize goes to a 24-year-old police officer.  He came forward to claim the money on Jan. 7, and had his partner to thank for introducing him to the Delaware Lottery

The Camden man, who wishes to remain anonymous, only plays once a year and says the reason he purchased a ticket on this occasion was because his partner reminded him about the sizable jackpot.  “I bought one ticket, but the odds worked out alright for me anyway.”  He used the Quick Pick option.

The officer checked his ticket on the Internet and says he was very surprised to discover he’d won.  “I was shocked because I knew what the odds were,” he remembers.  “I told my partner right away, along with a couple of other guys at work.”  Now he plans to pay off his car and save the rest of the money.

“This is the first time I’ve ever won, but I’ll probably keep playing,” the winner reported.  “I want to win more now.”  So far Powerball is the only game he has tried.

HOT LOTTO® Sizzles For Maryland Winner

Dover, Del. – A 50-year-old Joppa, Md., man may have considered jumping for joy after his recent $30,000 HOT LOTTO® win.  The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, warmed his winter considerably by landing a big win through the Delaware Lottery and the game’s Sizzler option on Jan. 3.

“I’ve played every Saturday for a while, but I’m not the regular player – my wife is.  I usually just buy the tickets for her,” the winner explained.  “We’ve been playing Powerball® ever since there was a big drawing that caught our attention a few years ago.”  Now the player also includes Hot Lotto and Multi-Win Lotto among their games of choice, picking up one ticket per draw as often as possible.

Fittingly, the players wife was also first to discover the big news about their win.  She dialed the Lottery’s free 1-800-338-6200 to verify the win – three times, in fact.  “It was 5:30 a.m. and I was already in my car about to leave for work when she called me and told me we’d won,” he remembers.  “I just went to work like usual that day and kept real calm.  No one knows that I’ve won and we plan to keep it that way.”

The lucky couple will stash the money in their savings account for now.  “With this economy we might need it for a rainy day,” said the winner.  “I’ll continue to work, but I was just one number off of the bigger prize.  If we had won that it might be a different story.  We’ll keep playing until we get that bigger one.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shell Food Mart located in Newark at 2410 Pulaski Highway.

Big New Year's Win For Middletown Player

Dover, Del. – A 42-year-old Middletown player has come forward to claim $184,007 thanks to the Delaware Lottery’s MULTI-WIN LOTTO drawing on New Year’s Eve. The winner, a Delaware native, works in the propane delivery business and has been married for 20 years.

The winner wishes to remain anonymous, but says he’s a regular lottery player who originally started playing for entertainment purposes.  Now he enjoys buying one ticket a week.  That’s all it took to land the recent cash bonanza.

The winner called the Delaware Lottery hotline (1-800-338-6200) to check his ticket and loved what he heard.  He then took the ticket to a local retailer to confirm the good news.  It left him in disbelief.  “The first person I told was my wife’s best friend,” he remembers.

Now the winner plans to buy a new car, fix up the house, and put a chunk of the money towards his daughter’s upcoming wedding.  “I don’t expect much to change,” says the winner.

He learned about the win by checking online and immediately shared the good news with his wife.  “I was in disbelief,” the winner recalls.  He says the winnings will go towards bills for now.

Teacher Learns Of POWERBALL® Win

Dover, Del. – A 61-year-old educator moved one step closer to retirement after claiming a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize in a Dec. 13 drawing from the Delaware Lottery.  The lucky player lives in Camden and teaches in Dover, but possibly not for much longer.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, buys about $20 worth or tickets daily and mixes it up with some Quick Pick and some of his own numbers.  The player’s special mix of birthdates did the trick for the big win.  “The 13th is my birthday, and that wound up being the Powerball® number,” said the winner – who also includes Play 4 and Hot Lotto® among his favorite games.  “I won $2,500 about six months ago, but this is my first really big win.”

The player checked his numbers by obtaining a printout at a local retailer on the way to work following the drawing.  “I don’t stay up late to see what numbers are drawn, but I knew right away I’d won when I saw the numbers on that sheet,” he remembers.  “I just didn’t know how much I’d won.”

He planned to surprise his wife with the news by depositing the winnings into their bank account then asking her to check it.  “That should be a good surprise for her,” he said.  Otherwise, the anonymous player says he’ll put the bulk of the money into savings and retirement vehicles.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Dover Super Soda and Deli, located in Dover at 595 Forest Street.

Pennsylvania Player Hits HOT LOTTO® Paydirt

Dover, Del. – A Honey Brook, Pa., man claimed a $10,000 HOT LOTTO® prize thanks to a Nov. 22 drawing and the Delaware Lottery.  Henry D. Rice says he stumbled upon the Lottery’s wide variety of games several years ago while on his way to a Delaware gambling establishment.

The field service technician typically purchases five to 10 tickets weekly, but picked up a few extra on the day of his big win.  Rice characterizes himself as a regular Lottery player and he chose his own set of random numbers to win the prize.

Rice learned about the win after checking his tickets online.  “I had to check the numbers three times,” he remembers.  “I was speechless.”  He broke the good news to his wife shortly thereafter.

Rice has never won a prize of this size in the past, although he claimed a $2,000 payout in Pennsylvania in 2007.  He names Hot Lotto® and Multi-Win Lotto as his favorite games and says he plans to continue playing for years to come.

For now, Rice plans to use the winnings to pay some bills and put new tires on their car.  Besides that, Rice does not think this win will dramatically change.

Commitment Pays Off For Rehoboth Grocer

Dover, Del. – A 52-year-old Delaware native recently came forward to claim a $10,000 HOT LOTTO® prize thanks to the Delaware Lottery and a Nov. 5 drawing.  The persistent player says he has purchased tickets every week for the past decade.  It finally paid off.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, works an overnight shift at a grocery store near his Rehoboth home and was born in Wilmington.  “I usually play a couple of games each week and I buy one or two tickets for each,” said the player.  “I like Powerball®, Hot Lotto®, and Multi-Win Lotto, and I’ve been a loyal player since 1999.  I won $2,500 with Play 4 a few years ago, but I’ve never won anything else big other than that.”

The anonymous player says he checked his ticket online shortly after returning home from the nightshift.  “I used Quick Pick for my numbers, but I must have read them at some point, because when I looked at the winning numbers they looked familiar to me.  I thought I’d only won $1,000 at first, but it wound up being $10,000.”

“I was nervous at first, then happy, and then tired because I’d worked all night,” he recalls.  After a short nap he was prepared to claim his prize.  “I’ve told one friend so far, but I haven’t told my mother yet.  I wanted to see if it was true first, but now I’ll share the news with her.”

For now the player will stick to their typical regiment of daily ticket purchases.

Rummel checked his ticket at a retail outlet in Selbyville while driving north to Punkin’ Chunkin’.  “At first I thought I’d only won $1,000,” he remembers.  He immediately told his parents and says he’s happy to share the good news with everyone.

200k winnerDover, Del. – Don and Denise Cavallaro stepped forward to claim a $200,000 POWERBALL® prize on Oct. 9, thanks to the Delaware Lottery and an Oct. 8 drawing.  The lucky couple has lived in Georgetown for 10 years and characterize themselves as “sporadic” Lottery players who have enjoyed playing for quite some time.

Don, who works for the board of public works, does the majority of their purchasing.  “I usually buy two Powerball tickets at a time, and that’s how many I bought this time.  I pick them up them whenever the mood strikes me or whenever we need the money,” he joked.  “Two dollars is not a lot of money and you never know.”

Though Denise has some lucky numbers of her own, it was a Quick Pick set that generated the windfall.  This was the first major win for the Capallaros.

The couple discovered their good fortune when Denise checked the numbers in the morning paper.  “I was blown away,” Denise recalls.  “Don was already at work when I called him, but he came home right away.”  After contacting their sister-in-law to verify the winning numbers the celebration was on.

“We’re going to invest a good amount,” said the winners, “but we’re also going to take a great vacation with this money and visit a few islands.”  Most of the cash will go towards the family’s retirement fund.  “This will make my decision about when to retire easier.  It just might put us over the top and help keep us comfortable,” Don said.  “We’re very blessed and you can probably see our smiles from here.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Daily Market located in Lewes at 420 East Savannah Road.

HOT LOTTO® Win Keeps Middletown Man Up At Night

10k winnerDover, Del. – A Middletown man recently claimed a $10,000 prize from an October 11th HOT LOTTO® win, and finding out the news was a real nail biter.  Martin Petro, a pipe fitter and regular Lottery player, purchased $20 worth of tickets early on the day of the drawing with a set of numbers he picked along with the Sizzler option.  Then, later in the day he picked up another $25 worth of tickets using Quick Pick numbers.

After getting home that night, Martin sat down to look through his ticket numbers once the drawing was announced.  “I was going through all of my tickets at the table,” said Martin.  “One by one I was reading the numbers and it wasn’t until the last line of numbers on the last ticket of the whole bunch that I saw my winner.”

The first person he told about the win was his wife, who responded by saying: “It’s about time!”  “I finally won a really good one…” Martin laughed.  Although he’d won smaller prizes before, this was his first big win.

The lucky player remembers being so excited that night he could not fall asleep.  He decided to pass the time by playing a 25-cent licensed Delaware Video Lottery game at Delaware Park where he won an additional $2,500.

Martin hopes the recent prizes signal a streak of good luck.  He plans to continue playing HOT LOTTO®, POWERBALL®, and PLAY 4 games with an eye towards even bigger prizes.

The father of five and grandfather of 15 remembers how he found out about the win.  “I called the hotline and kept circling numbers as I went.  I had to call five times just to make sure.”

Statistics Student's POWERBALL® Numbers Add Up For $10,000 Win

10k winnerDover, Del. – A man from Wilmington recently claimed a $10,000 prize from the Lottery’s September 10th POWERBALL® drawing, and even before he confirmed that he’d won, he had a good feeling that he held a lucky ticket.  George Muraya, a student in applied statistics, had only won smaller prizes of up to $100 before, but felt confident that this time was different.

The first person that Muraya told about the win was his wife, but he left out a big part of the news.  “I didn’t tell her how much we’d won, so she thinks it’s only $500 or maybe $1000.  I’m picking up the check in Dover and then going to surprise her,” he said.

Middletown Man Sets Sights On Another Win

Dover, Del. – A Middletown resident recently claimed $10,000 in a July 16 POWERBALL® drawing.  The 65-year-old has lived in the state for nearly 50 years, and says he has enjoyed playing the Delaware Lottery for almost as long.

The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, works as a professional and says he buys $10 or $20 worth of POWERBALL® tickets a week.  While he usually chooses his numbers through the Quick Pick feature, he input his own digits on the day of the big win.  “I just selected some numbers out of the air, and amazingly enough they happened to be the right ones,” recalled the winner.  “They did have some meaning to me though.”

The married father of two discovered he had won when the store clerk checked the numbers for him.  “I was very pleased when I found out I won, but I just wish I had one more number right,” he said.  The winner immediately informed his wife of the good news upon returning to his car.

The winner does not expect the win to change his life, but he plans to keep playing until he hits an even bigger prize.  “I want to win the big one,” he said.  “That would definitely be life altering.”  For now he promises to save the money and focus on winning an even bigger prize down the road.

The winning ticket was purchased at Cochran Liquors, located in Middletown at 560 West Main St.

Generous Winner Shares Cash With Coworkers

Dover, Del. – A Pennsylvania woman recently claimed $30,000 by playing HOT LOTTO® with the Sizzler option.  Although the winnings are in her name, it was a group effort that helped produce the lucky ticket.  The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, asked a coworker to purchase tickets for her, and a separate coworker actually informed her of the win.  To reward their efforts, the plans to give part of the prize to both women.

Playing the lottery is nothing new for this winner.  She says she has been enjoyed various games since 1984.  She enjoys playing POWERBALL® as well as and Instant Games. Generally, she plays on Wednesdays and Saturdays and spends an average of $20 a week on the games.  Although she has won in Pennsylvania previously, she has never won anything this large.

The winner discovered her good fortune after speaking with a coworker by phone. “Normally I would call the hotline number to check and see if I’d won, but this time I didn’t have the ticket in front of me to correctly match the numbers and I had to rely on someone else,” she said.  “When she told me I’d won $30,000 I thought she was kidding, but she knew before me!”

The generous winner plans to use the money for repairs on her home.  “This may not change my life completely, but it will make me play harder so I can win the big one!”

Senior Citizen Wins 10k In POWERBALL®g

Dover, Del.  – Dagsboro resident John Buffington recently won $10,000 playing POWERBALL® with the Delaware Lottery.  The 72-year-old has lived in Delaware for more than 12 years, retiring in the state after a previous career in Baltimore, Md. where he worked at the Social Security Administration.  The husband, and father of one, claimed his prize on May 7, marking his first big win through the Lottery.

Buffington remember the events well.  “While shopping at the Super G in Millville I noticed that they sold Lottery tickets,” he said.  “After I finished shopping I decided to buy some POWERBALL® tickets, three to be exact.”  Sure enough, one of those happened to be a winner.  The retiree says he previously played his own numbers, with minimal return, so this time he elected to use the Quick Pick option.  Buffington says he has played the lottery on and off for many years, but plans to begin playing more often.  “I’m playing with the state’s money now, the way I see it, so I’ll be taking some more chances.”

While on his way to his daughter’s house Buffington stopped to look at a local news paper to see if he had won anything with his tickets.  “At first I thought I only had three numbers plus the POWERBALL®,” he remembers.  After further inspection he had four numbers plus the POWERBALL® ensuring him of a $10,000 prize.  Buffington said he checked his ticket five times before he truly believed the good news.  “Once I knew it was for sure I rushed to call my daughter and wife,” who he was on his way to visit.  “They were in shock and disbelief.”

Now the retiree says he will use the money to pay off car loans, debts and potentially to pay for a family Riverboat cruise in Germany in October.  Buffington also plans to buy some “fun things” for his nine grandchildren.

Dover, DE – Nengbin Zhang spiced things up in the kitchen recently with a $10,000 HOT LOTTO® win.  The 28-year old chef is a regular Delaware Lottery gamer and has enjoyed for years the Lottery’s wide variety of entertaining offerings.  What started as five dollars and a dream for Zhang is now a $10,000 reality.

The Wilmington resident has claimed several Lottery prizes in the past, but they pale in comparison to Zhang’s winnings from the March 1 drawing.  The single parent of one devised a random set of numbers to whip up a HOT LOTTO® masterpiece.  “Imagine, randomly picking five numbers and having them win you $10,000.  I guess I have some new lucky numbers,” Zhang said.

Zhang learned about the big win by checking with the retailer where the ticket was originally purchased.  “I told my family right away about the win and I will try to put most of this money into savings,” according to the lucky winner.  In the mean time, the chef expects the Delaware Lottery win to make life a little easier.

Retiree Cashes In With HOT LOTTO® Sizzler

Dover, DE – A 67-year old retiree from Wilmington recently claimed a $30,000 prize from the Delaware Lottery.  The former heating and air conditioning technician turned can thank one of the four HOT LOTTO® tickets he purchased before the Feb 21 drawing.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a regular Lottery player with several wins under his belt, but the HOT LOTTO® payout is the largest amount he’s won in his many years of playing.  In the past his favorite games have been Pick-4 and Pick-3, but the big win may be swaying him in a new direction.

The Delaware Lottery’s popular Quick Pick option helped the Wilmington native strike it rich.  The anonymous winner discovered he’d won by calling the Lottery’s winning numbers hotline (1-800-338-6200 in Delaware and 302-736-1436 from out of state), but he didn’t quite believe his good fortune until double checking with the retailer where he’d purchased the ticket.   Once convinced of the win, the only word that came to his mind was, “wow!”  He quickly told his son the good news before and then let the good news fully sink in.

He says he has no big plans for the money right now, but the winnings should certainly go a long way towards easing his retirement.

Newark Family Cashes In On $200,000 POWERBALL® Hit

Dover, DE – A father/daughter pair has stepped forward to claim a $200,000 POWERBALL® prize from the April 30, 2008 drawing.  The 70- and 43-year-old winners, who wish to remain anonymous, both live in Newark and say they’re elated with the news.  “We don’t play big, but we play every week,” said the school teacher, who accounts for one half of the winning tandem.  “It’s amazing that our persistence has paid off.”

The family moved to Delaware approximately 15 years ago and said they’ve enjoyed POWERBALL®, MULTI-WIN LOTTO, and assorted Delaware Lottery instant games for many years.  “Of course you never know if you’re going to win, but we’ve always had fun playing,” said the 70-year-old retiree.

The daughter remembers well the happy day.  “I saw the numbers in the newspaper over breakfast so I knew we’d won something, but I had no idea how much the ticket was worth.  I just went to work like always.”  Meanwhile, her father was on the case.

“I took it to the Lottery retailer where we bought it and they looked at the ticket with me,” he said.  “When they told me it was worth that much I went right away to tell my daughter.”

The lucky Delaware Lottery players say they’ll donate some of their loot to the Special Olympics, which they have supported for years.  The money will also be put towards a family cruise vacation to the Caribbean and plans to pay down some bills.

“This is going to help a whole lot,” said the younger family member.  “It will set up a nice retirement egg for me and it will help my parents enjoy things in their retirement that they might not have gotten to otherwise.  I’m very happy for them.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Acme in Newark located at 100 Suburban Drive.

Dover, DE – A group of five friends who enjoy playing the Delaware Lottery struck it big on a March 8 POWERBALL® drawing.  One member of the group recently stepped forward to clam a $10,000 prize, and said the group was thrilled with the news.  The 61-year-old group representative hails from Millville and works at Allen’s Hatchery in nearby Seaford.

Originally from South Carolina, the winner (who wished to remain anonymous), said that she was stunned to discover the good news.  As she perused the morning paper she checked the Lottery section as always, but this time the numbers on her ticket and the numbers in print were an almost perfect match.

“After finding out that we’d won, I called my friend and the other four members of our group right away to tell them the good news,” she said.  “They were all in a great state of shock that we had won.”

The group has been consistently playing the Lottery for about three years, and usually purchases about three to five tickets a week.

“We have won prizes of $100 a couple times, along with other smaller amount prizes, but this was our first big win,” added the group representative.  “We play different Lottery games, like MULTI-WIN LOTTO and HOT LOTTO®, but POWERBALL® is the group favorite, and this win sure hasn’t changed that.”

Big Win Has Local Grandma Feeling Young Again

Dover, DE – The Delaware Lottery put some spring back into the step of a 61-year-old grandmother of five by awarding her a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize in a March 5 drawing.  Janice Vickers, a Smyrna resident has purchased one ticket a week for many years and says she’s thrilled with the big win.

Vickers’ quintet of grandchildren may be in line for a share of the winnings, as she derived her lucky digits from their ages and used “5” as her POWERBALL® number.

The West Virginia native is also a regular player of both HOT LOTTO® and MULTI-WIN LOTTO but decided to give POWERBALL® a try this time around.  It certainly paid off.  “I began playing the lottery because I just wanted to win some money, and now it’s for the fun of the games,” she said.

Previously, the largest prize Vickers had won was a $500.  Still, she knew she was in line for a nice payout when she called the Delaware Lottery hotline to check her numbers.  “I was writing the numbers down while I was on the phone, so I knew I had won something,” she said.  “I didn’t know it would be this much though!”

After hanging up the phone, she remembers celebrating with her husband, and immediately called her kids and grandchildren to share the good news. “I guess I’ll have to put a little aside for them now,” she said.  Vickers says she has no big plans for the money right away.  “I’m just excited I’ve won.  I’m really just happy to have won something.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Smyrna Cigar and Cigarette Outlet located in Smyrna at 2499 S Dupont Blvd.

First Time Player Wins $10,000 With POWERBALL®

Dover, DE – Sandy Fegely, a self-employed mother of two, recently claimed a $10,000 prize in the Delaware Lottery’s March 1 POWERBALL® drawing.  The Millsboro resident says she bought a pair of tickets on a whim “just to try something different.”  Despite never playing the Lottery before, Fegely proves it never hurts to have beginner’s luck.

With a take-home payout of $7,500 (after Federal taxes are withheld), POWERBALL® has immediately become Fegely’s new favorite game.  “Since this was my first time playing the Lottery, I wasn’t really prepared for a win like this,” she said.  When checking her numbers on the Internet, the 36-year-old couldn’t believe her eyes at first.  “My first reaction was: am I reading this right?”  After double- and triple-checking Fegely alerted her husband and touched off a celebration.

When asked what she plans on doing with the money she replied, “I’m going to buy my husband some new tires and share some of the winnings with my father.”

HOT LOTTO® Adds Excitement For Wilmington Winner

Dover, DE – A 28-year-old HOT LOTTO® player from Wilmington recently claimed a Delaware Lottery prize of $10,000 in the March 1 drawing.  The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, is a regular Lottery player, and said they picked their own lucky numbers at random.

The winner buys lottery tickets from a variety of retailers throughout Delaware, but after this experience they may be inclined to visit Kings Cigarette Outlet in Wilmington more frequently, as it accounted for the winning ticket.  The lucky player said they’ve won other Lottery prizes in the past in the $25 and $50 range, but nothing of this magnitude.  After winning the $10,000, the chef and parent of one child says they plan to keep playing for another crack at a top prize.

“After giving the ticket to the retailer, I was shocked to hear that I had won,” the winner remembered.  “I was really excited and immediately told my family.”  For now, the winner plans to put the money aside into a saving vehicle.  The anonymous player also said they have no immediate plans for the cash, but know the prize will make things in their life a bit easier for the months to come.

The young man’s wife was actually the first to discover the win, but the pair was soon celebrating together.  “She knew we had the POWERBALL®, but wasn’t sure about the other numbers.  It was quite an experience when we realized we’d won.”

The lucky couple plans to pay off some loans right away, but has no concrete plans for the remaining funds.  “That new bike that I’ve always wanted is looking good now,” according to the winner.

New Delawareian Rediscovers POWERBALL® Magic

Dover, DE – A 42-year-old man from Magnolia recently claimed $10,000 thanks to a Feb. 13 POWERBALL® drawing.  A long-time lottery player, the Delaware Lottery prize marks the winner’s first major payout.

The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, says he buys one POWERBALL® ticket using the Quick Pick feature each time he visits his local convenience store.  On the day of his big win, however, he purchased three tickets.  “I don’t really know why I bought more than usual that day,” he says.  “I guess I was just feeling lucky.”

Born in Canada, the winner moved to Delaware in the past few months and previously resided in upstate New York.  The winner was a frequent lottery player even before moving into the area.  “It’s something I’ve played for years.  I just saw the POWERBALL® sign one day after moving to Delaware and it reminded me how much I enjoyed playing.”

The married step-father of one discovered he’d won when checking his tickets at a licensed retailer.  “The store clerk checked my ticket and told me the good news,” he remembers.  “I was stunned and didn’t believe him at first, but he was great about the whole thing and told me how I’d have to go to in Dover – all of those next steps.  I even bought a couple bottles of wine right there to celebrate the win.”

Multi-Win Lotto Pays Big For New Castle County Couple

Dover, DE – T he Delaware Lottery recently made a 47-year-old man from New Castle County a very happy, and rich, man.  The man’s MULTI-WIN LOTTO ticket from a Feb. 6 drawing paid out to the tune of $152,000.  “This is what we’ve been waiting for,” said the married father of two.  After being hurt on the job, the winner says the money is a welcome sight for him and his family.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, plays the lottery regularly and says he purchases $10 worth of tickets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Despite small wins in the past, nothing prepared him for the jackpot breakthrough.  “I started playing the lottery with the hopes of hitting that jackpot one day, and it’s hard to believe that day is finally here.”

He remembers bringing several tickets to his local lottery retailer on the day of the jackpot win.  “I think I won $10 on my first ticket then $5 on a HOT LOTTO® ticket and I was thinking that this was a pretty good day already,” he recalls.  “Just like in the movies, it was that last ticket I checked that turned out to be the big one.  I remember the store clerk quickly pulled me around the counter to show me the screen and I had to lean on the wall just I wouldn’t fall over.”

Next he rushed home to show his wife, who was also in shock.  “We’ve shared the news with some of our family and close friends, but mostly we’re keeping the news quiet.”

The family looks forward to purchasing a new home in New Castle with the winnings.  “It seems like you can get a better deal for your money right now with the market the way it is, so we hope to use that to our advantage,” according to the winner.  “This win will change our lives more than you’ll ever know.”

Trip winners may have chance to play ‘Deal or No Deal’ for $1 million

Dover, DE – Rita Branun, of Newark, and Charles Hodgson, of North Ocean City, Md.,
were recently selected as winners in the Delaware Lottery’s Deal or No Deal instant game second-chance trip drawing.  The lucky winners, along with up to three guests of their choosing, will soon be enjoying a travel package to Hollywood that could turn their millionaire dreams into reality.

Branun, a 49-year-old Delaware native, plans to take her daughter and granddaughter on the five-day, four-night trip.  “Multi-Win Lotto is probably my favorite, but my best win was $2,500 in a Pick-4 drawing before this,” said the homemaker.  “I buy tickets all over and I enjoy lots of different games.”

Still, Branun was shocked when the Lottery Office contacted her with the good news.  “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing at first,” she recalled.  My husband told me to hang up.  He thought it was a joke.”

Hodgson was equally surprised by the good news.  “I’ve played the Delaware Lottery since way back when,’ he said “but this is the first time I’ve won more than $500.  My wife already told everyone where she works.”

The 69-year-old retiree says he is familiar with the Deal or No Deal television show and has a strategy in mind if he makes it onto the program.  “If I get to a certain number I’ll take it.  I hope I get to $1 million, but I have a number in mind that I’d be happy with.”

Branun says she’s also watched the show several times.  “I like my odds.  I’m a bit of a risk taker, so Deal or No Deal is right up my alley.”

POWERBALL® Pays For Maryland Man

Dover, DE – Delmar resident Brian Wilkins struck it rich on Jan. 30, taking home a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize. The Delaware native worked in the engineering department of the state’s Department of Public Works for years, and said he began playing the Delaware Lottery because it gave him something “to hope and dream about.”  With the big win, at least one of Wilkins’ dreams has finally come true.

Although he is not a regular lottery player, Wilkins has won some smaller prizes in the past. He says the recent win has convinced him to become a more regular player.

Wilkins recalls purchasing the winning ticket late Wednesday, but says he did not discover he’d won until checking for the winning numbers online on Friday afternoon. “I must have checked it over five and six times,” Wilkins remembers.  “We were both at home and I told my wife right away.  She was a little panicked, as we were about to take our son to guitar lessons, but after she settled down she quickly and realized what great news it was we were both really happy.”

With the newfound money, Wilkins and his family intend to purchase practical things for their home, including a new bed and a new washing machine.  “This may not change our lives in any dramatic way, but it will make life a little easier and will help my family and I to relax a little bit more,” he said.

Winning Big Nothing New For Newark Man

Dover, DE – A Newark man recently became $50,065 richer, thanks to a Jan. 16 Delaware Lottery POWERBALL® drawing. A regular lottery player, the recent prize marks the fourth time the lucky 53-year-old has claimed a significant prize.  The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, has previously claimed POWERBALL® prizes of $50,000, $54,000, and $75,000.

While winning may never get old, the most recent prize may be even sweeter than usual because of the unique number combination used by the winner.  “I always play Power Play®, but this time around I used numbers that commemorated the recent death of my sister,” according to the winner.

No stranger to big wins, the contractor was still hesitant to believe the news initially.  “I put the ticket in the scanner and I thought it was broken at first,” he remembers.  “I thought I’d only won $564.”  A second, and third, look confirmed the prize amount.  “It was a great feeling.  The people in the store were all congratulating me, and I went home and told my wife right away.”

The anonymous winner plans to put the prize money towards a “fixer-upper,” make some improvements, then resell the property.  “We’re also going to take a family trip to Hawaii,” he said.  “This has changed my life for the better, and I’m stopping at the store on the way home to buy some more lottery tickets.”

Dover, DE – A 66-year-old New Castle resident who says he plays POWERBALL® for fun was certainly happy to win a $40,000 Power Play® jackpot Jan. 2.  The father of four has enjoyed the Delaware Lottery for years, but this is his first big prize.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, buys his tickets from a number of retailers, and usually purchases about five plays per week.  “I don’t play every week, but I get a kick out of playing so I pick them up every now and then.”

The winning experience was memorable.  “I found out the day after the drawing [that I’d won] because I took the ticket to the gas station.  I could not explain my happiness at first,” he remembers.  “Other than my wife, of course, I’m not telling anyone else about the win.  I think this is something just to keep in the family.”

He says he’s most pleased because he can finally afford to pay off some credit-card bills.  “I’m not doing anything else with the money right now.  I will just be feeling great, and I know things will be easier once I get rid of these bills hanging over my head.”

The winner, who works on the contractor side of a construction business, uses QuickPick and says POWERBALL® is his favorite game.  I just stick to that one because I have a chance to win more money.  I don’t care that the odds are smaller, because I mostly play for fun anyway.  Who wouldn’t want a shot at a bigger jackpot?”

$30,000 WIN HELPS COUPLE WITH WEDDING

Dover, DE – The Delaware Lottery recently delivered an early wedding present to a Newark couple engaged to be married this November.  The young pair is $30,000 richer thanks to a Dec. 15 POWERBALL® Power Play® win.

The 33-year-old Newark resident who purchased the ticket is a frequent Lottery player, typically purchasing $10 worth of POWERBALL® chances.  He vividly remembers the events leading up to the big win.

“We were driving over to a friend’s house but we didn’t have any money,” says the Delaware native.  “My fiancé had a couple of instant game tickets that we knew were worth $24 and when I went in to cash them I figured I’d look through my pockets to check the other tickets we had.  I had maybe 10 POWERBALL® tickets in there and we just started checking them.  One came up as a $9 winner and I was joking with the clerk that it was too bad it wasn’t $90 million.  Then we scanned a couple that weren’t winners and finally came to one and the clerk yelled ‘You hit, you hit!’  I didn’t know what she meant, but she said I had to go to Dover, because I’d won $30,000.  We were going crazy and hugging everyone in the store and jumping all around.  I went right out to the car and told my fiancé.”

The couple says the prize will go a long way towards securing their finances.  “We weren’t sure how we were going to afford that November wedding, but this will definitely ease things up a little.  People really do win!”

The lucky winners have no plans to stop playing the Delaware Lottery.  “This is a great prize, and we’ve won before too, but we’re going to keep playing until we win that even bigger jackpot out there.”

POWERBALL® WIN PROVIDES TRICKS AND TREATS

Dover, DE – A Wilmington man recently stepped forward to claim a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize from an Oct. 31 drawing.  A long-time Delaware Lottery player, the 51-year-old Wilmington native works in industrial sales and says this is his first big win.

“I buy a different amount of tickets each week depending on how high the jackpot goes,” according to winner, who wishes to remain anonymous.  “We play whenever it’s convenient to stop in for tickets.  It’s amazing how some people don’t think a jackpot of a few million is enough incentive to buy tickets these days.”

Consistent smaller wins kept the winner coming back for more, and he wanted to share his initial excitement of such a larger prize with his wife. The Delaware Lottery player remembers how the scenario unfolded:

“I checked the winning ticket Sunday, by myself, and the next day I asked my wife to stop at 7-11 with me.  I told her to come in so she could see how to check tickets in case she ever went by herself.  I had a few tickets and first asked the clerk to check the ticket that hadn’t won the big prize.  That one was a $3 winner and we were joking about how it was such a big win.  Then I had the clerk scan the $10,000 ticket when my wife was looking at the reader so she could have the same experience I did.  She couldn’t believe it!”

“I’m going around telling everybody about this one,” the winner says.  “It’s not like we’re retiring on this or anything, but it’s a really nice win.”  The winner plans to buy his wife a new horse saddle and put some of the winnings towards a family trip to Ireland.  “I’m also going to save up a little and pay some bills.  I’m not quitting my job just yet.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Fairfax News, located at 2121 Concord Pike in Wilmington.

RAFFLE COMES BUT ONCE A YEAR, FOR NEWARK WINNER

Dover, DE – A Newark woman, who named the DELAWARE RAFFLE as her favorite Delaware Lottery game, recently became $25,000 richer thanks to a winning ticket.

The lucky player phoned the Delaware Lottery’s Player Information Line shortly after the Dec. 31 drawing to check her ticket numbers (1-800-338-6200 in Delaware and 302-736-1436 out-of-state).  In fact, she checked several times.  “I just couldn’t believe it the first time I heard it,” she remembered.  “I must have called five times.”  She was a winner every time.

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, expects the winnings, which total $18,750 after deducting Federal withholding taxes, to cover many bills and set her family on the road to becoming debt free.  “It’s a wonderful feeling,” she said “to be climbing out of that hole.”

Her one complaint is that the RAFFLE game is only played once a year.  “I started playing the RAFFLE last year – and it’s the only game I play – but I love it,” said the happy winner.  “I only bought one ticket for it and I can’t believe I won!”

The young winner may not be a regular Lottery player, but she certainly plans to keep playing this particular game.  “There’s no way I can stop playing the DELAWARE RAFFLE at this point,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Christiana Boscov’s located in Christiana Town Center at 361 West Main Street.

Dover, DE – The Delaware Lottery helped a Smyrna resident end 2007 in style by awarding him a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize just before the start of the New Year.  The 35-year-old Delaware native pocketed $7,500 (after Federal withholding taxes) thanks to a Dec. 29 drawing, and he says the big win will change his life.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, struck it rich by purchasing a single POWERBALL® ticket at his local Acme food store.  “I usually just buy one, and I guess I was lucky enough that that’s all I needed to buy,” he said.  Maybe that’s because he had some karma working in his favor.

“I usually play numbers like my family’s birthdays and my anniversary,” the man recalls.  “Two months ago, though, I ate at this Chinese restaurant and I won playing the numbers that were in my fortune cookie. They really were lucky after all.”

The project manager discovered he’d won by calling to check the numbers Dec. 30 after the previous night’s drawing.  “When I found out I’d hit it for $10,000 I just let out a ‘Woo-Hoo!’  Then I obviously told my wife right away.”

A finished basement may soon be in the works for the lucky winner, but he pledges to put a major portion of the money aside for his children.  “This is just going to make everything in my life that much easier.”

The Delaware Lottery regular also won $100 in 2007, cites POWERBALL® as his favorite game and says he plans to keep playing the numbers.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Smyrna Acme, located at 236 East Glenwood Ave.

CHINESE RESTAURANT CROWNS HOCKESSIN WOMAN WITH $10,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE

Dover, DE – A Hockessin resident recently stepped forward to claim a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize.  The lucky woman is an occasional Delaware Lottery player whose previous high-win was $5.

“I’m not a real frequent player, so this is quite a treat,” said the winner.  “One of the reasons I started playing was because of a Lottery ticket retailer right next to a favorite Chinese restaurant of mine, The Crownery.”

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, used QuickPick to select the winning numbers for the Nov. 2 drawing that resulted in her good fortune.  “I’ll sometimes buy five POWERBALL® tickets or so, but this time I think it was just four,” the winner recalled.

The dental hygienist discovered she’d won after checking her ticket at a Books & Tobacco on Kirkwood Highway.  “I was completely surprised to find I’d won,” the winner remembered.  “I told my husband right away, but I’m not about to start telling everyone I know.”

For now, the lucky player says she has no plans for the winnings.  “This will certainly make things more comfortable in my life.  Now that I’ve had a taste of success I definitely plan to keep playing the Delaware Lottery.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Books & Tobacco store located in Hockessin’s Lantana Square.

POWERBALL® PRIZE IS NICE HOLIDAY BONUS FOR MARYLAND WOMAN

Dover, DE – The holidays bring a lot of surprises, and Peggy Wilkins of Pittsville, MD got a big one on December 19, 2007 when she won a $10,000 POWERBALL® drawing prize.  The manufacturing worker, who has been playing the Lottery for about eight years, said this is her first time winning such a large amount, and she could not have been more excited.

“I just didn’t believe I’d won at first,” said Peggy.  “I had to go around the counter to look at the computer screen with the cashiers and see the readout for myself.”

The first person Peggy called was her husband, who she phoned from her car in the store’s parking lot.  They each then started getting in touch with other family members to tell them the good news.

When asked what she would do with her winnings, Peggy was thoughtful, saying “It’s money you’re not expecting, so when you get it you need to take care of things you normally wouldn’t think about.”  She plans on putting most of the money away in savings, and will use some for family matters that need attending.

ACCOUNTANT’S NUMBERS ADD UP FOR POWERBALL® PRIZE

Dover, DE – A Delaware accountant recently claimed his $10,000 prize from the September 15, 2007 POWERBALL® drawing, and he plans to stick to his personal system for collecting and checking tickets the way that he has always done.

“After I buy my POWERBALL® ticket, I throw it in a drawer and wait a few months before checking through the collection,” said the man, who wished to remain anonymous.  “Whenever I have a spare moment I check through to look for number matches, and this time I hit it big.”

The winner’s initial reaction was disbelief, and after he put the ticket by itself in a safer place, he told his wife that they’d won.  Taking a cue from the movie Jerry Maguire, she shouted “Show me the money!” making her husband laugh.

The Delaware Lottery reminds players that prizes must be claimed within a year of the drawing date, and they always have free access the past winning numbers on the www.delottery.com site.

NATIONAL GUARDSWOMAN TOPPLES MONOPOLY

Dover, DE – Private First Class Stokesbury is used to training for emergency maneuvers in the First State and beyond.  A member of the Delaware Army National Guard, the 18-year-old was recently called into action to secure her $7,500 MONOPOLY instant-game top-prize winnings.

In just her second time ever buying a scratch-off ticket, PFC Stokesbury struck it rich.  “I actually got into playing (The Delaware Lottery) because a friend of mine,” she says.  “He plays all the time but hasn’t won big.  I might be his good luck charm from now on.”

Luck was certainly on the Delaware native’s side Dec. 13.

“My dad and friend freaked out at first,” she remembers.  “I scratched it off but they saw before me that I’d won.  Then I saw it and freaked out too.  We had the lady check it three times!”

While some of the winnings have already gone towards last-minute Christmas shopping, PFC Stokesbury plans to avoid any extravagant spending-sprees.  “We’re not going out to the most expensive restaurant or the casino or anything.  This will definitely help more with some bills and things.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Delaware City Texaco.

BIG WINNER NETS “SPECTACULAR” PRIZE

Dover, DE – A Newark couple recently became the latest Delawareans to claim an instant game top-prize from the Delaware Lottery.  A 67-year-old retiree and his wife scratched their way to a $20,000 win thanks to BIG WINNER SPECTACULAR.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, considers himself a regular Lottery player, and also enjoys the Delaware Lottery’s popular PICK 3 and PICK 4 games.  But his daughter is partly to thank for the big prize.  She bought him the ticket.

“I’ve played the Lottery just for entertainment for years.  I usually get or ask for four or five tickets at a time, but this time it was just one ticket,” he recalls.  “A $20,000 return on one $10 (BIG WINNER SPECTACULAR) is a pretty nice.”

Kudos should also go to the man’s wife.  She scratched the ticket.  In all it was a total family effort.

The couple has not yet hatched any extravagant plans for the winnings.  For now they plan to put it towards their savings and keep playing the Lottery.

The winning ticket was purchased at Airport Liquors located in New Castle at 202 New Churchmans Rd.

COWORKERS CLAIM POWERBALL® PURSE

Dover, DE – A group of Pennsylvania coworkers will certainly have something to talk about at their office holiday party this year.  The lucky 40-person cluster recently claimed a $10,000 prize thanks to a Dec. 1, 2007 POWERBALL® drawing.

The group representative, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that many of the winners live in Pennsylvania, where the electronics company they work for is located.  “We don’t discriminate when it comes to Lottery games.  We’ll play whatever jackpot gets the biggest or whichever tickets are easiest to get.”

The designated ticket-purchaser discovered they had won while checking the numbers on her computer Sunday morning.  The Delaware Lottery reminds players they always have free access the past winning numbers on the www.delottery.com site.

“I was shaking.  I couldn’t stop shaking,” she remembers.  “I wanted to be sure (and tell everyone at once), so I waited until Monday at work to make the announcement.”

Many of the officemates have pooled their resources for years, but the $7,500 payout (the prize total after federal withholding taxes) is their first time wading into five-digit winnings, says the woman who claimed the winnings on the office’s behalf.  “We’ve played for 10 years off and on, but we’ve only won small prizes before.  We usually put $2 each towards both of the weekly drawings.”

The winning ticket, generated by Quick Pick, was purchased at the Christiana Mall Boscov’s.

Now their only dilemma is dividing the prize and figuring out what to do with the money.  “I’m just going to save it, or maybe put it towards a TV,” says the anonymous prize claimer.  “It’s a nice little Christmas bonus.”

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER FOR POWERBALL® WINNER

10k winnerDover, DE – A Bear resident recently claimed a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize, nearly one month after his numbers came through in a Nov. 7, 2007 drawing.  The 52-year-old man, who wishes to remain anonymous, says the money comes at a great time for him and his family.

The winner works at a Delaware City refinery and says he is a long-time Delaware Lottery player.  “I started buying tickets in Pennsylvania years ago, even before Delaware had a lottery,” says the winner.  “Now I don’t have to go as far, but I still buy a ticket for most every Wednesday and Saturday POWERBALL® drawing.  It’s a great chance to win much more than you can usually earn at work!”

At first, the lucky Delaware Lottery gamer was in disbelief about the win.  “I keep all my Lottery tickets in the car and usually bring them in to a store to check them once a month,” he says.  “The clerk ran it through the machine and told me I’d won, but I couldn’t tell how much it was – I just saw a bunch of zeros.  I really didn’t believe it at first.  I even went to three more stores and had them check the ticket just to be sure.”

The New Jersey-born man isn’t expecting the $10,000 to change his life entirely, but the money will be a welcome stocking-stuffer around the holidays.  “This money will definitely help out with the Christmas gifts for our kids and grand kids.  It will also help us pay some bills, splurge a little and maybe pay for some projects down the road.”

The winner purchased his ticket at the Bear Safeway located at 1101 Governors Place, relying on Quick Pick to select the winning combination.

GEORGETOWN MAN WINS $10,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE

10k winnerDover, DE – Diego Gonzalez recently claimed a $10,000 prize from the Nov. 24 POWERBALL® drawing.  The 34-year-old Georgetown resident has enjoyed playing the Delaware Lottery for several years, but the $7,500 take-home prize (after federal withholding taxes) is his largest to date.

Gonzalez, who works for Purdue, says he usually purchases tickets for the twice-weekly POWERBALL® drawings.  His own set of randomly-selected lucky numbers produced the winning combination.

“I’ve won some smaller jackpots in the past,” says the Delaware native, “but this is my first big win.  POWERBALL® has always been my favorite Lottery game, and I plan to keep playing.”

Gonzalez discovered his good fortune when checking his ticket against a store print out of recent winning numbers.  “My girlfriend was the first person I told.  We were both pretty excited.”

Although Gonzalez has no immediate plans for the money, he expects it will help make things more comfortable in his life.  “This is a great prize and I’m very happy to win it.”

BEGINNER’S LUCK MAKES MONEY FOR DOVER WOMAN

10k winnerDover, DE – The game was MONEY MAKER, and it lived up to its billing.  A Dover woman’s first Delaware Lottery instant game experience was surely a memorable one.  It only took her one ticket, but a $25,000 top prize tends to make a lasting impression.

“I don’t usually play the Lottery, but a friend of mine who plays asked me to pick up tickets for her so I bought a few for myself,” recalls the winner – who wishes to remain anonymous.

The last time the 49-year-old Delaware-native played a Lottery game was back in the ‘90s, but the recent win may rekindle her interest.

“I couldn’t believe it at first.  I just kept reading the directions over and over,” she says.

The lucky winner, who works in the finance field, plans to invest a healthy portion of the prize (which comes to $18,750 after taxes).  She says she’ll put the rest towards a great Christmas.

10k winnerDover, DE – Raymond Shearer is Delaware’s latest $10,000 POWERBALL® winner, and the 63-year-old says the late-November win will help him enjoy the holidays more than ever this year.

“First I’m going to pay a few bills with the money, but I expect it to just make our holiday season a little nicer overall.”

A long-time Delaware Lottery Players Club member, Shearer discovered he’d won after checking his ticket against the Lottery-provided winning-numbers e-mail.  “It was 12:30 a.m. when I looked at my e-mail [for the drawing results] that night,” he recalls.  “My wife was already asleep, but I woke her up to tell her.  She was pleasantly surprised.”

It’s free and easy to join the Players Club online. Members can sign up to have winning numbers, hot game updates, the latest news and more delivered straight to their inbox.

SCRATCH OFF WIN FILLS NURSE’S PRESCRIPTION

Dover, DE – An Ardentown woman is $50,000 wealthier after claiming a top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s Super Cash Spectacular instant game, and the lucky winner says the money couldn’t have come at a better time.  Jackie Nicklas’ win came on the final day of her boyfriend’s cancer treatments, and with her 27-year-old’s wedding coming up in July; Nicklas says the cash is like a God send.

“When I saw ‘Go to Lottery office’ on the store’s lottery ticket machine I was in disbelief,” Nicklas recalls.  “I left my glasses case there in the store I was so shocked.”

While Lottery games are nothing new to the 52-year-old Terry Children’s Psychiatric Center nurse, the big win was a first.

“I buy Lottery tickets every day and I’ve been playing since the Delaware Lottery started, but I’ve never won anything like this before,” says the state employee.  “I like Pick 3, Pick 4, scratch offs, Multi-Win Lotto and Powerball®, so I guess you could say I like them all!”

Nicklas relies on a set number series for other Lottery games (mixing birthdays, the numbers in her mother’s address and other significant digits), but this time the $20 card and a coin did all the work.

“I already know what I’m doing with the money,” says the Wilmington-area resident.  “First I’m buying a Volkswagen Rabbit with a sun roof.  Then I’m redoing the kitchen and living room – without taking out any loans.  This win is really going to make everything going on in my life much easier.”

Nicklas purchased the winning ticket at Claymont News & Gifts located at 2711 Philadelphia Pike .

$200,000 POWERBALL® WIN PUTS TRUCKER IN FAST LANE

Dover, DE – A Kent County truck driver should have no problem at the toll plaza the next time he rolls through, thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The 23-year-old man’s $150,000 win, which represents his $200,000 POWERBALL® prize minus federal tax withholdings, should also cover more than a few trips to the gas pump.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, started playing the Lottery last year but already has a few wins to his name.  “I just started playing because I was walking around with some extra money,” he says.  “I typically buy $5 to $10 worth of tickets at a time now.”

The anonymous winner names POWERBALL® as his favorite Delaware Lottery game, and the recent payout is unlikely to change his mind.  “My parents were the first people I told about the win,” recalls the Delaware native.

He is sure the prize will put him ahead of the game.  “The first thing I’m going to do with the money is pay off some loans,” he says.  “It will feel great to be debt free.”

The winning numbers were selected using the Quick Pick feature and the ticket was purchased from the 3rd Base Liquors located at 5 Front St. in Frederica.

SECOND-CHANCE LOTTERY PLAYER WINS FIRST-CLASS NASCAR® TREATMENT

Dover, DE – A New Castle County woman recently found her way to the winner’s circle thanks to the Delaware Lottery’s officially licensed NASCAR® Instant Game.  The 51-year-old entered her originally non-winning ticket through the Lottery’s Web site to win a trip to a 2008 NASCAR® sanctioned race as part of a complete prize package.

Marilyn P. R., who preferred not to disclose her full name, calls herself a long-time Lottery gamer.  “But I only play games where there are second chance drawings and I’ve done pretty well for myself that way,” she says.  “I think most people don’t take the time to re-enter, but it’s pretty easy to do it online – and it’s free.  I’ve won some great prizes over the years by doing that.  I’ve even won a NASCAR® jacket that I’m going to wear to the race!”

The postal worker’s good fortune has convinced some skeptics around her that the Lottery truly awards prizes to real people.  “My mother and my co-workers say I make them jealous because I’m always winning,” Marilyn says.  “They also tell me they’re going to start playing because now they know it’s the real thing.”

The race trip package includes a three-night trip for two to the winner’s choice of any NASCAR® sanctioned race for the 2008 season.  It also covers round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transfers, $500 spending cash, and a racetrack VIP package including pre-race pit passes, or hospitality tent admission or an additional $500.

“When (the Lottery official) called to tell me I’d won I was worried at first because I couldn’t find the ticket,” according to Marilyn.  “I was still crying a little and having a hard time reading the numbers, though it’s not a bad way to be woken up on a Friday morning.”

Marilyn remains undecided about which race she’ll attend but says she’s leaning towards a race in Daytona, Fla.  “I’ve already been to California, but I haven’t been down to Florida before.”

POWERBALL® PONIES UP $10,000 FOR WILMINGTON WINNER

Dover, DE – A Wilmington man’s recent POWERBALL® win proves you can leave the racetrack happy even if your horse doesn’t find the winner’s circle.  James Green’s work with racehorses at Delaware Park Racetrack might give him a leg up when it comes to picking the ponies, but even he’s unlikely to have ever won $10,000 this easily.

Green has played the Delaware Lottery for years, but he says the biggest prize he’d netted before the Nov. 3 drawing was $100.  He cites POWERBALL® and PLAY 3 as his favorite games.  “I just started playing because I was hoping to get lucky,” says the 64-year-old.  The recent win surely reinforced those hopes, as Green says he’ll definitely keep playing.

The Wilmington resident discovered he’d won when checking the winning POWERBALL® numbers in the Sunday newspaper.  He didn’t immediately realize the extent of his good fortune.  “At first I thought it was just a couple of dollars,” says Green.  “I was excited to find out it was $10,000.”

The trainer already knows what he wants to do with at least part of his newfound wealth and, fittingly, it involves horsepower – of the automobile variety.  “I’m thinking about buying a new car,” Green says of his plans for the $7,500 he’ll take home after federal withholding taxes are deducted from the winnings.  He also expects the prize money to help him pay off bills and generally improve his day-to-day life.

The winning ticket was purchased at Delaware Park Racetrack located at 777 Delaware Park Boulevard in Wilmington, where Green says he typically purchases one $5 ticket twice weekly.

$200,000 POWERBALL® PAYOUT FOR SUSSEX COUNTY MAN

Dover, DE – A Georgetown resident finds himself $200,000 richer (minus federal taxes) thanks to a friend’s advice and a winning POWERBALL® ticket.

The 38-year-old U.S. immigrant, who makes his living as a knife sharpener, is a regular patron of the Delaware Lottery and says he began playing when a co-worker suggested the idea.  That same close friend was also the first person he told about his windfall after the Oct. 13, 2007 drawing.

Citing POWERBALL® as his favorite game, the winner (who wishes to remain anonymous) says this is easily the largest prize he’s ever won.  If he needed any reason to keep playing, he need look no farther.

The married father remembers first being happy and surprised before starting to jump for joy in the store where he scanned the ticket.  Five of the six winning numbers (21, 30, 34, 36, 49, 42) were accurately selected by the Quick Pick feature, which missed only the red POWERBALL®.

For now the winner has no plans for the money other than bill payments, but he also expects the big win will make life for him and his family much easier.

The winning ticket was purchased at Bodies Dairy Market located at 116 Magnolia St. in Milton, where the man says he typically purchases one or two tickets at a time.

BIG POWERBALL® WIN FOR LONG-TIME PLAYER

Dover, DE – Maybe there’s something in the water.  The third Newark man in seven days recently stepped forward to claim a Delaware Lottery prize of at least $10,000.  The 54-year-old building contractor joined the trio thanks to an Oct. 12, 2007 POWERBALL® drawing.

The Delaware native (who wishes to remain anonymous) has won several small prizes in the past, but says this is his first time taking home a major purse.  “It’s great to win such a big prize all at once.  I absolutely plan to keep playing the same exact way.”

The lucky winner says he’s played the lottery for 15 years, purchasing three POWERBALL® tickets every Wednesday and Saturday on the way home from work.  He named MULTI-WIN LOTTO as his other favorite game and says he always relies on the Quick Pick feature to generate his numbers.

The $10,000 winner discovered his good fortune by checking the numbers in Saturday’s newspaper.  “I still had no idea how much I’d won though,” he recalls.  “I thought I was seeing things at first and I said, ‘I’m coming [to Dover] tomorrow to pick up that check.’”

Most of the winnings will go directly into the bank, according to the Newark man, who purchased his ticket at a Country Maid store in Newark.

OFFICER'S PERSERVERANCE PAYS OFF WITH $10,000 POWERBALL® WIN

10k winner in MiddletownDover, DE – A Middletown man whose weekly shopping list includes $10 worth of POWERBALL® tickets was recently rewarded for his tenacity.  The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, picked up $10,004 in a Sept. 19 drawing and says he won’t abandon the ritual any time soon.

The police officer makes a point to stop Wednesdays and Saturdays “every single week” for POWERBALL® tickets (and a coffee) on the way to work.  The Delaware native knows the Schoolside Getty’s morning cashier so well he thought it was a joke when the employee said he’d won.  “I thought he was kidding at first.  We always play around so I didn’t believe him right away.  I’ve never won anything before!”

Although the 46-year-old usually picks some of his own numbers for other lottery games, he relies on the Quick Pick feature for POWERBALL®.  He may not have come up with the five lucky numbers on his own, but he does know exactly how he’ll use the newfound cash.  “We just put up a lot of money on my son’s wedding and this will help us recuperate from that.”

The father of two says he’s enjoyed POWERBALL® and other Delaware Lottery games for years.  “I just thought it was a neat idea.  I got into the POWERBALL® game when it was introduced and I’ve been playing ever since.”  Although he’s never taken home any substantial prizes in the past, the anonymous winner says the promise of a big reward always kept him coming back.  “Now it’s getting me to start thinking about doing the Power Play®.”

The $1 Power Play® option guarantees ticket purchasers will multiply any set cash prizes 2, 3, 4 or 5 times, as determined by a multiplier number selected at random for each POWERBALL® drawing.  To add the feature, lottery players can mark the Power Play® option on their slips or ask their retailers to add it for them.

NEW CASTLE WOMAN’S DREAM BECOMES $10,000 POWERBALL® REALITY

10k winner in MiddletownDover, DE – A Delaware woman who says she started playing the lottery out of “a hope and a dream” woke up $10,000 richer Sept. 26.  Audris Dickerson can stop pinching herself – the money is real.

The 39-year-old New Castle resident has been an avid Delaware Lottery player for years and says she buys one or two tickets for every POWERBALL® drawing.  It took only $1 to make Dickerson the state’s most recent $10,000 winner that Wednesday.

Using a slate of self-picked random numbers, the mother of two owes thanks to no one but her own intuition.  “Usually I pick my own numbers for [MULTI-WIN] LOTTO and use the Quick Pick option for POWERBALL® because there are too many numbers to choose from.  But this time I was just feeling lucky.”

Dickerson discovered just how lucky she was that night when watching the live television drawing.  “I wrote down the numbers as they were coming up and thought, ‘They look familiar.’”  Her good fortune carried her to within one white ball of the POWERBALL® jackpot, but Dickerson says she is very grateful for what she won and plans to keep playing.  “I already have some numbers picked out for Saturday’s drawing,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Christiana Dash In located at 288 Christiana Road in New Castle.

As for her initial plans for the money, Dickerson said she’d stock up on groceries and throw herself a birthday bash.  “I turn 40 in November so I’d like to treat myself to a great party.”  Her recent win should go a long way towards ensuring a very happy birthday.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $2.6 billion to the state’s General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. KENT COUNTY WOMAN SCRATCHES, MATCHES, AND CASHES IN FOR $15,000 TOP PRIZE

10k winner in MiddletownDover, DE – A Dover-area woman recently claimed one of the three $15,000 top prizes in The Delaware Lottery’s Match for Cash Instant Game.  The scratch-off winner says she is a long-time lottery player with numerous past wins, but has never before enjoyed such a large payout.

“At first when I started scratching the ticket I thought it was a loser,” the lucky winner told lottery officials.  “The money came at a great time, I really needed it,’ she added.  “I’m going to pay off some bills, surprise my brother and send him some money, and go purchase more [Instant Games].”

Retired since 1988, the Kent County woman (who wishes to remain anonymous) considers herself a true Delawarean after living in the state for 20 years.  “I love The Delaware Lottery.  I’ve won many times through the years and I know their policies support us in-state winners.”

The frequent lottery player is not partial to any one lottery game in particular, perhaps because she has experienced such good luck with a wide variety.  “I like them all – especially if you win.”

With one more Match for Cash top prize remaining another $10 ticket purchase could soon lead to a $15,000 windfall.  The anonymous winner’s advice: “You just have to go out there and grab that winner.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Super Soda Center located on Saulsbury Road in Dover.

CLAYMONT MAN NEARLY TOSSES WINNING POWERBALL® TICKET

10k winner in ClaymontDover, DE – A Claymont man’s recent POWERBALL® payoff has prompted him to change his Lottery playing patterns. “I just had a feeling about playing that day,” Edward Schwanke recalls of his August 11, 2007 ticket purchase. Since winning $10,000 through the Delaware Lottery’s popular POWERBALL® game, the 27-year-old says he’s started playing the game once or twice a week.

“I wish I had won the jackpot, but I’m very grateful for what I got,” Schwanke told Lottery officials. Initially he believed he’d won a larger cash prize because he missed a number during a live television drawing. Schwanke quickly checked the numbers and realized his card was not an exact match – then he nearly threw the ticket away.

“Thank God my friend was there,” he says. Fortunately a friend who frequently plays the Lottery explained that you don’t need a perfect match to win. “It was quite a rollercoaster of emotion,” Schwanke remembers. “Now I know the rules.”

With starting jackpots of $15 million there are several ways to win at POWERBALL®. Players can win by matching five numbers for $200,000 or four numbers plus the red POWERBALL® number for $10,000. The Delaware Lottery reminds players to check their tickets, which are valid up to a year after date of purchase. Schwanke can thank the Lottery’s Quick Pick feature and the BP station located at 3421 Philadelphia Pike for his newfound wealth. The Primo Hoagies employee plans to save some of the earnings and put some towards a new sports car. “Maybe a Lexus IS 300,” he says.
