TWO MORE WINNERS CLAIM $100,000 POWERBALL® PRIZES

DOVER, DE - A 53-year-old Certified Nursing Assistant from Millsboro, DE, and two women from North Wilmington claimed $100,000 POWERBALL® prizes from the August 25 drawing at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover yesterday afternoon (August 29).   All three elected to remain anonymous.  Seven $100,000-winning tickets from that drawing were sold in Delaware; three were redeemed earlier in the week and two remain unclaimed.

The winner from Millsboro purchased her winning ticket at Your Neighborhood Store in Millsboro the day of the drawing (August 25).  The ticket consisted of numbers she randomly selected.  "I found out I won when I saw the winning numbers on television Sunday morning," she explained.  "I actually had to call one of my relatives to make sure I'd really won."  She was awarded a check for $72,500, which represents her $100,000 prize minus $27,500 for federal tax.  The winner plans on sharing her prize money with her kids.

A 53-year-old supervisor and a 58-year-old teacher from North Wilmington also claimed a $100,000 POWERBALL® prize yesterday afternoon.  The 58-year-old winner said she bought the winning ticket last Saturday (August 25) at Claymont News in Claymont as part of a birthday present for her friend.  "I selected numbers with a special significance to me, including my friend's birth date and our children's ages," she explained.  "I picked 20, which is the age of my son, for the POWERBALL® number and when I saw the POWERBALL® number was 21, I couldn't believe we missed it by one."  The winners said they would split the $100,000 prize.  Each will receive a check for $36,250 after taxes.  Although they are not regular Lottery players, both plan to play Delaware Lottery games in the future.

As of today, four $100,000 POWERBALL® prizes remain unclaimed: one each for the May 12 and August 18 drawings as well as two from the August 25 drawing.  Prizes may be claimed up to one year from the date of the drawing.

The POWERBALL® jackpot for Saturday, September 1, 2001, has an estimated annuity value of $12 million.  Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-Line Retailers.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $1.1 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware.  The Lottery offers a variety of games including POWERBALL®, All Cash Lotto, Rolldown®, PLAY 3 and PLAY 4, and assorted Instant Games.
