TEN DELAWARE LOTTERY PLAYERS FROM PHILADELPHIA CLAIM $100,000 NOVEMBER 1 POWERBALL® DRAWING PRIZE

DOVER, DE - A group of seven men and two women, who are City of Philadelphia employees, plus the mother of one who lives in Georgia, today claimed a $100,000 prize won in the Nov. 1 POWERBALL® drawing.

The spokesman for the group, who requested not to be identified, said he and his fellow workers have been playing the Delaware Lottery POWERBALL® game for about a year and a half. "A couple of us come down to Delaware every two weeks to purchase tickets for the next ten drawings of the POWERBALL® game," he said.

Lottery officials said they issued a check to the group for $72,000, which represents their $100,000 prize minus $28,000 for federal tax. The man said the prize money would be evenly split between each of the players in the group.

The spokesman said the winning ticket was purchased at Plaza Liquors in Newport, Delaware and that he and some of the other players would "bank" their winnings. When asked why they come to Delaware to play the Lottery, the man said, "We like DelawareÖwe feel we have a better chance of winning and we like coming to the state to do tax free shopping". The spokesman noted, "In Delaware you pay 99¢ for a hamburger and in Pennsylvania it's $1.06 with tax".

The spokesman told Lottery officials that the group will definitely continue to play POWERBALL® in the future. "We plan to visit the Lottery Office often," the man said with a laugh.

Since the start of the POWERBALL® game in 1996, Delaware Lottery players have won a total of 153 $100,000 POWERBALL® prizes.

Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-Line Retailers. The POWERBALL® jackpot for Wednesday, November 8, 2000, has an estimated annuity value of $54 million.
