Delaware Lottery Sets All-Time Revenue Record in
Fiscal Year 2007
Dover, DE -- The Delaware Lottery announced
that it set an all time record in overall sales for ticket games and video
lottery during the 2007 fiscal year (for year ending June 30, 2007). Because
of the increase in game play, the Lottery's contribution to the State
General Fund was $256.7 million, also a new state record. This amount
represents a $7.9 million, or 3% increase over the previous fiscal year.
"This year exceeded our expectations for game play as we experienced
record growth in several product areas: PLAY 4, Instant Games and Video
Lottery," said State Lottery Director Wayne Lemons. "Our revenue
has grown amidst considerable competition, and the Delaware Lottery has
shown the ability to engage players and help the state at the same time."
The Lottery's record General Fund contribution is comprised of the State's
share of net proceeds from Video Lottery operations at the three licensed
horse racing facilities in Delaware and net proceeds from lottery ticket
sales at approximately 500 licensed businesses operating throughout the
State. The General Fund is the pool of dollars that finances the majority
of state services in Delaware in such areas as education, public safety
and protecting the environment.
"This contribution represents the fourth largest source of income
for the state," added Lemons. "Our goal has always been to maximize
our contribution to the General Fund, thus helping the State better serve
Delawareans, while simultaneously delivering entertaining, fun and fair
games to our players."
Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed
more than $2.5 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed
state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. The Lottery offers a
variety of games: POWERBALL®, MULTI-WIN LOTTO, PLAY 3, PLAY 4, assorted
Instant Games, and Video Lottery.
