SON PROMPTS FATHER TO CHECK LOTTERY TICKETS
Discovers He’s A Million Dollar POWERBALL® Winner

Dover, DE - April 16, 2013 - A 55-year-old married man and father from Delaware City is now a millionaire after playing POWERBALL® with the Delaware Lottery. The gentleman purchased six tickets: two POWERBALL®, two MULTI-WIN LOTTO and two DELAWARE CASH 5® from Delaware City Liquors located on Clinton Street on April 9. One of those tickets, a lucky POWERBALL® ticket, turned out to be a million dollar winner in the evening drawing held on Saturday, April 13.

“Every week for the past five years, I’ve bought two tickets each for POWERBALL®, MULTI-WIN LOTTO and DELAWARE CASH 5,” the lucky winner said. “I always joked with the clerk [at Delaware City Liquors] that one day I was going to hit on one of these games.”

Sure enough, the man’s good fortune became a reality thanks to his son who prompted his father to check his Lottery tickets.

“My son kept telling me I need to check my tickets and I kept putting it off saying, ‘I’ll do it,’” said the man. “Finally around 9:30 PM last night [April 15], I called the Delaware Lottery 800 number and lost my breath when I found out the news!”

His wife was the first person to whom he broke the news. “She’s still in disbelief!” he said with a smile.

“No matter what way you play, you just never know when your lucky day will arrive,” said Lottery Director Vernon Kirk. “It’s such a great feeling when we have winners come through our doors and we are able to experience the thrill of the moment with them.”

A regular player and previous winner the Delaware Lottery, the man also recalled a time he had won $625 on a Box 4, 50-cent wager playing PLAY 4.

“For years, I also used to play a specific set of my kid’s birthday numbers, but about a year ago I switched to Quick Pick,” he said.

For this gentleman, the Quick Pick option proved favorable and was the right combination for a big win.

Claiming his prize at Lottery headquarters in Dover on April 16, the man told Lottery officials “Now I just have to figure out what I’m going to do with the winnings! I’m very blessed and that’s all I can say.”
