POWERBALL® JACKPOT SOARS TO $270 MILLLION
The Delaware Lottery Asks Players To Keep Responsible Play In Mind

Dover, DE - May 9, 2013 - With no grand prizewinner from Wednesday night’s drawing, the POWERBALL® jackpot soared from $222 million to a $270 million annuity jackpot with a cash prize option of $175.8 million. The winning numbers for the May 8 drawing were 21, 22, 26, 30 and 57, with a POWERBALL of 27.

Four players came just shy of winning the grand prize matching five of the winning numbers. A player from New Jersey won $1 million, and three players from Nebraska, Ohio and Pennsylvania won $2 million with the Power Play® option.

The Delaware Lottery joins other lotteries across the country in support of responsible play by emphasizing that the odds of winning a jackpot prize are 1-in-175 million and players should only spend what they can personally afford.

“We ask that players keep responsible play in mind, especially when jackpots soar to substantial amounts,” said Delaware Lottery Director Vernon Kirk. “We understand the excitement that high jackpots generate, but we ask players to keep the odds of winning the jackpot in mind and also to remember that it only takes one ticket to win.”

Both POWERBALL and MEGA MILLIONS® have seen huge jackpot swells within the last year, both reaching record-breaking jackpot status. Last November, POWERBALL reached $550 million making it the largest estimated annuity jackpot in the game’s history to date. MEGA MILLIONS reached a total of $656 million last March, and was the largest jackpot in world history to date.

The next drawing for POWERBALL will be held Saturday, May 11. Delaware Lottery officials are hoping for a big win in Delaware. In April of this year, a 55-year-old man from Delaware City became a millionaire playing POWERBALL.
