“America’s Game” Rises to Estimated $422 Million

The Delaware Lottery Encourages the Community to Play Responsibly

(DOVER, DE) — The thrill for the POWERBALL® continues to climb along with the jackpot, with players having an opportunity to win an estimated annuity jackpot of $422 million ($291 million cash payout) this Wednesday night, July 27. The jackpot was reached after the Saturday, July 23 drawing, when no ticket sold matched all six numbers drawn: 5, 7, 23, 35 and 39—plus the POWERBALL® number (11) and the Power Play® number (2).

“Excitement and record-setting numbers are what drives the jackpot—it’s why people play,” said Vernon Kirk, director of the Delaware Lottery. “A good idea to play responsibly is to join a pool with friends or co-workers, and make sure to not overextend yourself.”

Wednesday night’s drawing will be the 23rd drawing since the most recent POWERBALL® grand prize winner on May 7, and will give players an opportunity to win the eighth-largest jackpot in the game’s history, according to Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) officials. The Delaware Lottery joins lotteries across the country in encouraging people to play responsibly.

“Strong POWERBALL® sales mean more funding for vital and fundamental programs in the state of Delaware. As the POWERBALL® phenomenon continues, we hope we can experience an even more significant impact in our local communities and towns for years to come,” Kirk added.

Although the jackpot remains, more than 1 million players have won more than $9.5 million in cash prizes. The overall odds of winning any POWERBALL® prize are 1 in 24.9, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Tickets sell for $2 per game; the Power Play® option POWERBALL® costs $1 per game.
