$121.6 Million POWERBALL® Jackpot Winning Ticket Sold at Goose Creek Food Store in Selbyville

(DOVER, DE) — The Delaware Lottery today identified Selbyville Goose Creek, a subsidiary of Cato Gas & Goose Creek Food Stores, located at 38452 DuPont Blvd. in Selbyville, Delaware, as the Retailer who sold the winning ticket for a $121.6 million POWERBALL® jackpot prize on the December 17, 2017, drawing. The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were 1, 8, 16, 40 and 48, with a POWERBALL® of 10.

The POWERBALL® jackpot winner will have the option to choose an annuity or the cash value of his or her share of the jackpot. If the annuity option is chosen, the winner will receive the $121.6 million jackpot annuity, which will be paid in 30 payments over 29 years. If the winner chooses the cash option, he or she will receive a lump-sum payment of $72.1 million. The winner in Delaware has not yet come forward.

“For one lucky winner in Delaware, this holiday season marks the beginning of the start of his or her life as a multimillionaire,” said Delaware Lottery Director Vernon Kirk. “This is an incredible life-changing event, and the Delaware Lottery encourages the winner to take the time he or she needs to make the decisions regarding prize claim options, and perhaps consult with a tax accountant or an attorney.”

This drawing represents the second-highest Delaware jackpot winner on a single ticket. The highest was in 2004, when a winner of the $214.7 million jackpot took the cash option of $116.9 million. Delaware also had a winner in two other highly advertised jackpots. However, more than one winning ticket was sold in these drawings, and the jackpot was split with winners from other states. One of these drawings took place in 2001, with a Delaware winner claiming one of four winning tickets on a $295 million annuity value. The other occurred in 2009, with a Delaware winner claiming one of two winning tickets on a $174.4 million annuity value.

In May 2013, one of three $50 million POWERBALL®-jackpot-winning tickets was also sold in Delaware, at the Super G supermarket located at Lighthouse Plaza Boulevard in Rehoboth Beach. The winner claimed a cash value of $10,377,750. Since POWERBALL® first began in 1992, Delaware has had a total of nine jackpot winners, which will increase to 10 when the lucky winner from Saturday’s drawing comes forward.

“Our Goose Creek Retailer is also a winner today for helping to make this amazing experience happen, and we are pleased to add them to our growing list of lucky Retailers,” added Kirk. “No matter the size of the jackpot, the prize structure of POWERBALL® is making it fun and exciting to play, with more than 300 players becoming millionaires by winning at the second prize level in calendar 2016 alone.”

Along with the grand-prize winner, two players matched all five white numbers drawn to win $1 million. Those tickets were sold in California and New York; however, neither player played the Power Play® option, which would have increased the winnings to $2 million. Overall, there were 676,912 winners in the drawing who won at least $4 each.

POWERBALL® jackpots start at $40 million and roll until the jackpot is won. Players win by matching the five white ball numbers (1 to 69) and the red POWERBALL® number (1 to 26). There are eight other ways to win non-jackpot prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million, or up to $2 million if the ticket includes Power Play®. The overall odds of winning any POWERBALL® prize are 1 in 24.9, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
