First-time Lottery Player Wins $20,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s 20X Lucky Instant Game

(DOVER, DE) — Maria Lopez, a 32-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, played the Lottery for the first time in her life and, to her surprise, won $20,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s 20X Lucky Instant Game. Lopez, who is married with three children, purchased her winning ticket from the 7-Eleven on West Market Street in Newport, Delaware.

“When I first scratched the ticket in the store, I didn’t think the ticket was a winner,” said Lopez, who works as a custodial employee at a local school. “I scanned it under the machine, and ‘Winner’ came up on the screen.”

Lopez told Lottery officials that the ticket was the last one in the pack, so she just decided to buy it—and it paid off. Once the news set in, Lopez called her mother to tell her the exciting story.

“My family is so happy for me,” said Lopez. “The prize money will make things a lot easier, especially since I need to purchase new carpet in my house and fix my car. Plus, I want to save some money for my kids.”

Lopez says she might buy another ticket in the future, but for right now she is walking on sunshine with her new prize money.

She claimed her $20,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters on Monday, May 22.
