Morning Routine Pays Off With $50,000 POWERBALL® Win For Bridgeville Man

(DOVER, Del.) — Jeffrey Clouser, a 46-year-old Bridgeville, Delaware, resident was doing what most people do at 7:30 a.m. on a Thursday: getting ready for work. It seemed like the day would be just like any other—until Clouser’s mother-in-law reminded him to check his POWERBALL® tickets. Like many POWERBALL® players, Clouser was anxiously hoping that he’d won the $700 million jackpot. But when he learned that the winner was from Massachusetts, he began to lose interest. His mother-in-law, a former convenience store employee who is familiar with the Lottery, reminded him that he still could win other prizes and insisted that he check his numbers anyway.

To Clouser’s surprise, he didn’t just win—he won $50,000.

“I purchased five tickets, and it wasn’t until I checked the last ticket that I knew I was a winner,” said Clouser, who is married with four children. “I thought the ticket was maybe worth $100, but when I pulled it up on the website to [verify], I saw that it was for $50,000—I couldn’t believe it!”

Once reality set in, excitement swept the Clouser household as his children and wife heard the news.

“It’s really ironic that we won, because I wasn’t even planning on purchasing tickets,” Clouser said. His wife wasn’t feeling well, so he stopped by Royal Farms to get her some ginger ale. “I saw the sign at the counter about the drawing and thought, let’s put our name in the hat and contribute to the fun.”

Before heading to work on Aug. 24, Clouser, the president of Epic Manufacturing, joined his wife at Lottery Headquarters to claim their prize.

“It’s only been about two hours since I learned the news, so I’m letting this sink in before I make any decisions about what do with the prize money,” Clouser said. “I know we have a few bills we want to pay off … my wife is fond of tropical destinations, so we will look into setting up a vacation in the near future.”

This is Clouser’s largest win to date. He said he will continue to play Lottery games on occasion when the mood hits him. The winning numbers from the Aug. 23 drawing were 06, 07, 16, 23 and 26. The POWERBALL® number was 04, and the Power Play number was 4x.
