Georgetown Woman Plans for Extra-Special Christmas After Winning $15,000 Playing the Delaware Lottery

(DOVER, Del.) — It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Tahja Cannon, a resident of Georgetown, Delaware. The 25-year-old caregiver scratched her way to a top prize of $15,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s 7 Instant Game, and says she is now planning to make the holiday season extra special.

Cannon, a regular Lottery player, purchased three tickets from Royal Farms in Felton—and one turned out to be a winner.

“I didn’t hit on the first two, but then the third ticket proved to be lucky,” Cannon said. “I was with my uncle in the car—we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. I just kept repeating, ‘We are set, we are set!’”

Cannon told Lottery officials that she likes to play for the entertainment, the excitement and the chance at winning big money. In addition to Instant Games, she also plays the POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® when the jackpots are high.

“I have a 1-year-old son and can’t wait to make this Christmas extra special for him,” Cannon said. “I’m already planning to decorate his room and purchase a nice recliner.”

This is Cannon’s largest win to date. She claimed her prize at Lottery Headquarters on Monday, Nov. 13.
