Delaware County, PA Man Wins Big in Delaware Lottery

Man wins $15,000 during halftime of the National Championship basketball game.

(DOVER, Del.) — Mark Eckert was in Delaware visiting his girlfriend to watch the National Championship basketball game. During halftime, he went to the 7-Eleven on Market Street in Newport, Delaware where he decided to purchase one EXTRA Play Instant Game ticket.

“I usually buy a $5 Instant Game ticket every other day, but it’s always sporadic,” Eckert said about choosing the EXTRA Play Instant Game.

Eckert returned home to finish watching the game before checking his ticket. When he finally did, he learned that he had won one of the game’s $15,000 top prizes. “I was in disbelief,” Eckert said. “I kept reading over the play instructions to make sure [he had won].”

When asked about what he planned on doing with his winnings, the 27-year-old carpenter joked, “Deposit it,” adding, “Well, I do need a new pair of boots.”

Mr. Eckert claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters on April 3, 2018.
