Coworkers Split $1,000,000 In Big POWERBALL® Win

(DOVER, Del.) — A group of 13 coworkers in Newark matched all 5 white balls on the May 2 POWERBALL® drawing, each taking home $58,461.38 after taxes. The men, who wished to remain anonymous, say they have been playing as a group for about 15 years, playing both POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS®.

The men all contributed $4 and purchased 26 tickets from Books & News in Newark, DE. The man who purchased the tickets walked to the store the following day to scan the tickets. When he scanned the ticket, he was told to go to Lottery Headquarters to claim his prize. An employee then showed the man that his ticket was a $1,000,000 winning ticket.

“I was really shocked,” said the man who claimed the ticket. “It’s still so exciting.”

After returning to work and sharing the news with the rest of the group, one of the men secured the ticket until they could claim their prize the following day.

“We’re always happy to see big wins like this in Delaware,” said Vernon Kirk, director of the Delaware Lottery. “In fact, this is the second $1,000,000 winning ticket in Delaware in less than two weeks!”

When asked if they would continue playing after the big win, one of the men responded, “We already have our tickets for the weekend!”

The men claimed their prize from Lottery Headquarters on May 4, 2018.
