Man’s lucky numbers win him $25,000 a year for life

Dover, DE — A 65-year-old New Castle man has been playing the same numbers since he won $500 using them 20 years ago. The man played those numbers for the September 9th LUCKY FOR LIFE® drawing and matched all five numbers, winning $25,000 a year for life.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased the ticket at Dave’s Liquors in New Castle.

“I thought I was dreaming,” the man said when he learned that he had won. “I was one away from the big one (matching 5 numbers and the Lucky Ball), but that’s okay. This is still such a great win!”

“There were two national second-prize LUCKY FOR LIFE® winners in the September 9th drawing—each winning $25,000 a year for life,” said Vernon Kirk, Director of the Delaware Lottery. “It’s so exciting that one of them is from right here in Delaware.”

The man opted for the lump sum payment of $390,000. After taxes, the man will take home $296,400.

When asked what he was planning to do with his winnings, the man said, “I’m pretty laid back and don’t spend money on expensive things. I just want to help a few people out and save the rest.”

The man claimed his prize from Lottery Headquarters on September 11, 2019.
