Smyrna man wins $100,000 playing POWERBALL®

Dover, DE — A 71-year-old retired man from Smyrna recently purchased three tickets for the June 1st POWERBALL® drawing while visiting The Right Bottle in Smyrna. Much to the man’s surprise, one of those tickets ended up matching four white balls and the POWERBALL®. Additionally, the man played Power Play® with a 2X multiplier, taking his prize total to $100,000 before taxes.

“Congratulations to the lucky winner,” said Vernon Kirk, Director of the Delaware Lottery. “We’re always excited to see players win big with POWERBALL®, and Power Play® multipliers take the excitement even further.”

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said he has been playing the Delaware Lottery since 2013. He usually purchases three POWERBALL® tickets at a time using a mix of Quick Pick numbers and numbers he selects himself. “I like using my family’s birthdays for good luck,” the man said. On this particular occasion, however, his Quick Pick numbers would provide all the luck he needed, resulting in his $100,000 win.

“I’ve won as much as $10,000 in the past, but this win is a true blessing,” the man said. He plans to use his prize money to take a trip to Texas in the coming months.

The winning numbers from the June 1 drawing were 11, 41, 56, 57 and 63. The POWERBALL® number was 02, and the Power Play number was 2X.

The man claimed his prize from Lottery Headquarters on June 3, 2022.
