New Castle man wins $50,000 playing PLAY 5®
Dover, DE — A 52-year-old man from New Castle is feeling especially grateful after winning $50,000 playing PLAY 5. The winning numbers drawn on May 27, 2025 matched the numbers he chose himself using his late father’s birthday. He purchased the ticket at Shell, located at 3001 New Castle Avenue in New Castle.
The winner shared that just days before, he discovered a serious leak in his roof and didn’t have the funds to fix it. After praying for two days, he felt compelled to purchase a single PLAY 5 ticket, something he says he often does, having played for years thanks to inspiration from his mom. This time, that one ticket changed everything.
Visibly emotional when he came in to claim the prize, he expressed how truly blessed he felt. He plans to use the winnings to repair his roof and hopes to pay it forward to someone else in need.
“Stories like this are a reminder of how meaningful a win can be,” said Helene Keeley, Director of the Delaware Lottery. “We’re thrilled that this prize came at such an important time and that it will help make a real difference in his life.”
The winning numbers from the PLAY 5® May 27, 2025 day draw were 4 1 3 4 2. The man claimed his prize from Lottery Headquarters on May 27, 2025.
