Wilmington Man Wins $25,000 Playing Delaware Lottery’s PLAY 5®
Dover, DE — A 22-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, is celebrating a $25,000 win after matching five numbers in the August 9, 2025, PLAY 5® night drawing. He started playing the Delaware Lottery in February, purchasing his tickets regularly on Fridays, making this win especially exciting for a relatively new player.
He purchased the winning ticket at King Star, located at 2711 Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington.
“Winning the lottery so early after I started playing wasn’t something I expected,” he said. “Winning $25,000 is no small thing. This will help a lot.”
The first people he told about his win were his parents and his girlfriend.
He checked the results later that night and was stunned by his win. He has not yet decided how he will spend the prize money.

The winning numbers from the August 9 PLAY 5® night drawing were 5, 5, 5, 1, and 2. The winner claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters on August 11, 2025.
