New Castle Man Wins $50,000 Powerball® Prize
Dover, DE — Delaware native Anthony Hawker, a 25-year-old health care worker from New Castle, is celebrating a $50,000 prize from the September 6, 2025, Powerball® drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at Shore Stop #253, located at 891 S. Dupont Highway in New Castle.
Mr. Hawker, who had only just started playing last week “for jokes,” used Quick Pick to select his numbers. His ticket matched four white balls plus the Powerball® — 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and Powerball® 17 — to secure the $50,000 prize.
At first, Mr. Hawker thought the win itself was a joke! Once the news sank in, the first people he told were his family. He said he plans to use his winnings toward buying a house for his mom.
“We’re smiling right along with Anthony,” said Helene Keeley, Director of the Delaware Lottery. “It’s always exciting to see a first-time player win such a big prize, and we’re especially delighted to hear that he is using his $50,000 win to help his mom achieve her dream of a new home.”
Mr. Hawker claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters on September 10, 2025.
Powerball® drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 PM. Tickets cost $2 per play.
