NEWARK WOMAN SALVAGES POWERBALL® WIN

(Dover, Del.) — Fifty four-year-old Constance Callahan claimed a $10,000 POWERBALL® win from the Delaware Lottery on Sept. 12.  Callahan says she only plays the lottery “once in a while, when [she’s] in the right checkout line.”  After collecting the big $10,000 win, it’s safe to say that Callahan was in the right checkout line at BJ’s in Newark on Aug. 28.

“I almost threw the ticket away,” Callahan admits.  Luckily, she held onto her winning Powerball ticket and discovered she was a winner when she checked her numbers online at www.delottery.com. Callahan selected a quick pick pre-numbered ticket rather than using her own numbers.

The lucky player almost missed out again however, when she miscopied the numbers and thought she had only won $103.  She even argued with the clerk when he informed her that she had actually won $10,000.

This was Callahan’s first Lottery win, and upon realizing that she had won big, she shared the news with her son.

The first thing Callahan plans to do with her money is to book a sunny vacation in a beach house in North Carolina for next year.

As for her future Lottery playing plans, Callahan admits, she already has two new tickets in her pocket.  She hopes they are as lucky as the last batch of tickets.

“This was early for me to discover I’d won.  I usually hold my tickets for a couple weeks before I check them.  I showed it to my husband and said ‘I don’t know how much we won, but I know we won something.’  I later went online to determine exactly how much money we had coming our way, but I didn’t want to count on anything until I was sitting in the lottery office.”

“I play all the Lottery games,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous.  “In December I won $5,000 on a Play 4 ticket using my daughter’s birthday numbers.”  Her luck is obviously staying strong into the New Year.

The winning ticket was purchased at Windsor Market located at 500 N. Walnut St. in Wilmington during her lunch hour. Within minutes of sharing the news of the winning ticket with the clerk, the store put up the “winning ticket sold here” sign.  The winner was very excited and the people she works with were excited for her as well.

Pleased about her recent winning streak, this Lottery player is confident she’s in line for more big wins.  “I want to be the next millionaire,” she said.
Her eye is on the POWERBALL®, saying “I’m ready to win the big jackpot.”  She plans to use her current win to pay some bills.

CAMDEN COUPLE CLAIM $100,000 MONEY MATCH TOP PRIZE

Dover, Del. – A 31-year-old Camden man wasted no time claiming his $100,000 prize this week from the Delaware Lottery’s $100,000 Money Match instant game.  Snow drifts and icy roads were of little concern to the anonymous player who redeemed his winning ticket Feb. 9, just hours after learning it was worth a fortune.

A native of the Washington, D.C. -metro area, the lucky young man works as a diagnostic technician at a local eye care facility.  The ticket still made him do a double take.

“I’m a scratch person and I’m used to these games, so I knew pretty quickly that I was a winner when I saw all those zeros,” the lucky player remembered.  He scratched it off during his lunch break and was sitting with a work buddy who had just cleaned his car.  His friend made him get out of the car to scratch the ticket and after he discovered it was a winner he joked that he would have shared the prize with him if he hadn’t made him get out.

The winner immediately told his boss and quickly phoned his fiancé to break the good news.  “I plan to take care of my family, pay off some debt and use the money to try to get a house.  This is life changing.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven located in Dover at 449 South New Street.

BEAR COUPLE CLAIM $82,009 WITH MUTLI-WIN LOTTO

Dover, Del. – A 66-year-old Bear resident won big with Multi-Win Lotto in a Feb. 8 drawing.  The anonymous winner’s wife called the Delaware Lottery hotline to confirm their luck just two minutes after the drawing.  The winning man was happy to claim his $82,009 prize the next day, Feb. 9.  His first reaction?  “I was doing hand springs!” he joked.

His wife, an avid lottery player, plays Multi-Win Lotto regularly.  However, this time he bought the ticket for her, using a combination of numbers related to birthdays and ages of family members.  Multi-Win Lotto uses several different rows of numbers, so the remainder of the rows were computer generated.

It’s no surprise that this avid winner and his wife will continue to play Lottery games.  Multi-Win Lotto and Powerball were already among their favorites, so this win just reinforces.  “We’re hoping to use the money to pay off credit card debt and put money in for retirement.  We’re also considering visiting family in Lake Powell, Utah,” he said.
Additionally, the winner says he’s happy for his Lottery win because it puts him and his family in a more financially secure position.  “We can rest a little easier.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Acme located in Bear at 146 Fox Hunt Drive.

BIG POWERBALL® WIN SURPRISES COUPLE

Dover, Del. — Kathy and Jim Cummings of Wilmington got a $10,000 surprise after the Jan. 30 POWERBALL® drawing.

The couple, who originally believed they won $100, found out the Monday after the drawing that they’d in fact won 100 times that amount.  The couple claimed their prize Feb. 5

“I was cooking breakfast Sunday morning and I heard Jim snicker while he was checking our ticket,” said Kathy. “He told me we got three numbers plus the Powerball. We thought we won $100.  The next day, Jim calls me while cashing the ticket to tell me that we have to go Dover.  We had really won $10,000!”

Jim went to redeem the ticket Kathy had purchased at their local grocery store, and was in disbelief when the cashier told him he had to go to the Lottery office.

“I asked the cashier why I had to drive there for $100,” said Jim.  “She explained that for winnings of $5,000 and above, players must go to Dover to redeem their winnings.  I was in total disbelief.  I made the cashier print out the prize report three times.”

The Cummings are regular POWERBALL players.  They say they’ll keep playing, and even purchased Mega Millions® tickets for the game’s first drawing in Delaware.

“We haven’t decided exactly what to do with our winnings yet, but we’ve probably spent it ten different ways in our minds already,” said Kathy.  “We may take that cruise we’ve been thinking about but have been putting off.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the ShopRite in Wilmington located off Concord Pike at 1300 Rocky Run Parkway.

RUBY RED 7s LEAVES WINNER SEEING GREEN

Dover, Del. – A 48-year-old Bear woman has scratched her way to the final top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s Ruby Red 7s instant game.  The lucky player claimed her $10,000 prize on Jan. 4, just a few days after realizing she was a winner.  A homemaker and mother of two, the winner is originally from Stanton.

“I’m not a regular player, but my husband is, and that’s who bought the ticket for me,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous.  “It was actually a stocking stuffer gift for me at Christmas, but I didn’t scratch the ticket off until the next day because I’m not a big player and never thought I’d wind up winning anything like this.”

The winner says her husband first introduced her to the Lottery back when the couple first started dating.  He is the more avid player of the two.  Besides instant tickets, their favorite games are Powerball® and Hot Lotto®.

“I really thought it was a fake ticket at first, like my family was ‘punking’ me or something,” she remembered.  “I had to take it to the store to check it before I really got excited about it or anything.  I was pretty thrilled after realizing it was for real!  Now I’ve achieved my dream of winning, but I’ll probably keep playing anyway.”

“This win is great because it will help us pay off Christmas and put some extra money away for our children’s upcoming college expenses,” said the winner.  “We are also considering a Florida vacation to get out of this cold!”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Stanton Discount Pharmacy located at 2006 W Newport Pike.
